Yacht Trace CTO Dr Dan Rogers Selected for Superyacht Tender Towing Panel at Lloyd’s of London
Yacht Trace Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dr Dan Rogers, was selected to join an expert industry panel at the Joint Hull Committee Yacht Subcommittee’s Annual Yacht Forum, held at Lloyd’s of London. 1st October 2026
Discussion: Superyacht Tender Towing – Risks and Considerations
The event brought together more than 100 marine insurance professionals, including insurers, underwriters, brokers and specialists from across the superyacht industry, to examine the risks associated with superyacht tender towing and opportunities to improve loss prevention.
With a PhD in engineering and extensive experience developing advanced tender monitoring technology, Dr Rogers was invited to contribute his technical expertise and practical understanding of the challenges involved in towing tenders and operating chase boats.
The discussion was moderated by Matt Halpin of MS Amlin, with the forum organised by Emily Grew of Intact Insurance. Captain Billy Stevens also gave a great insight to towing.
Topics included tender losses, towing procedures, crew training, insurance requirements and the role of advanced technology in identifying developing risks before they result in major incidents.
For Yacht Trace, the invitation recognised the growing importance of pre-emptive tender monitoring, two-way RF communication and independent monitoring technology in helping the superyacht industry improve towing safety and reduce preventable losses.
The forum also provided an opportunity to discuss how insurers can recognise advanced monitoring systems within policy conditions, potentially allowing greater flexibility for night towing, extended towing distances and reduced deductibles.

Yacht Trace Towing of Tender Monitoring System is recognised by Pantaenius Yacht Insurance as providing the added protection for towing tenders at night.

Tide offers more flexibility and greater benefits when using the Yacht Trace system to protect the tender or chase boat. Yacht Trace is named in the Policy.
Along with the above, we are recognised/recommended and are in regular contact with Intact, AON, Chubb, Pib, Only Yacht, Newcoast, Nexus, Beazley, Forte, Amlin, Partners &, Skuld, Howdens, Burgess and more (of which don’t allow their logos to be used).

Superyacht Tender Towing & Insurance – Pantaenius Industry Talk at Port Vauban, Antibes
2024 | Port Vauban, Antibes, France click the arrow to read more
In 2024, Pantaenius brought attention to the important subject of superyacht tender towing and the insurance considerations surrounding the safe operation of tenders and chase boats at Port Vauban in Antibes. Dr Dan Rogers was asked to speak
With superyacht tenders becoming increasingly valuable, larger and more sophisticated, the risks associated with towing, particularly over longer distances and during overnight passages, have become an important consideration for captains, yacht managers and marine insurers.
The discussion highlighted several key areas:
- Tender losses and damage: The financial and operational consequences of losing a tender while under tow.
- Insurance restrictions: How policy conditions can affect night towing, offshore passages, weather limits and towing distances.
- Monitoring technology: The importance of identifying developing problems, including water ingress, battery issues and tow-line failure.
- Risk prevention: How advanced tender monitoring can support safer operations and help insurers consider more flexible towing conditions.
These are challenges that Dr Dan Rogers, Co-Founder and CTO of Yacht Trace, has spent several years addressing through his engineering expertise and development of advanced tender monitoring technology.#superyacht #superyachttechnology #superyachtengineer #boatsecurity #yachtsecurity #yachtlife #boatinsurancetracker #chaseboat #yachttrace #tendermonitoring #yachtinsurance #marineinsurance #pantaenius
